1. Tamworth Golf Club
Tamworth Golf Club has deep roots in the city. The club traces its start to a newspaper notice placed by Dr Hugh Armstrong in July 1899, and after several moves it settled at its current site in 1923. Today, it offers an 18-hole layout with tree-lined fairways close to the city centre, playing as par 70 for men and par 72 for ladies.
The course suits golfers who want a relaxed but well-kept round. Golf NSW describes it as generous off the tee, with water in play on a couple of holes, fairly shallow bunkers and gently sloping greens. It is also a good choice if you want to play in a competition as a visitor, because visitors are welcome to enter all competition golf, and social and twilight golf from October to March can be played any day.
Off the course, the pro shop is well equipped. It stocks major brands, offers club fitting using Trackman technology, lessons with resident professional Brock Sampson, and hire clubs, carts and pull buggies. After your round, the clubhouse has a function room, bar, kids’ play area and a restaurant overlooking the course.
For visitors, a social round costs AUD 45 for 18 holes or AUD 27 for 9 holes, with cart hire at AUD 50 and AUD 30 respectively.

2. Longyard Golf
If you want a more demanding round, Longyard is the course to play. Designed by Bob Harrison and Greg Norman, it is a par 72 measuring 6,239 metres for men and 5,339 metres for ladies, with Santa Anna couch fairways and bent grass greens. The course hosted the 2002 NSW Masters and sits a few minutes from town, just off the New England Highway.
Water is the main challenge here. Hazards come into play on nine holes, and the closing stretch is a highlight: a par 3 over water on the 16th, then a long par 5 and a par 4 that both wrap around the same lake. Wind can also change the course a lot. Players often praise the layout and the friendly pro shop, and some note that a few tight holes call for an iron off the tee. Course condition depends on the weather, so tees and fairways can be rougher after dry spells.
Longyard is also the best place in town to practise. It has Tamworth’s only driving range, including an undercover bay shed, and the pro shop offers lessons for individuals and groups. The on-site tavern, The Mill, has a fully licensed bar with course views and a secure children’s play area, and opens Tuesday to Sunday from 9am.
Under the July 2025 schedule, non-member social rounds cost AUD 46 for 18 holes and AUD 34 for 9 holes, with cart hire at AUD 45 and AUD 35.

3. Gimmie Golf
Gimmie Golf is not an outdoor course, but it is a useful option when the weather turns or you want to play in the evening. The venue uses Uneekor simulators with GSPro software, so you can play well-known courses from around the world indoors. It also has a fully licensed bar with pizzas and snacks, which makes it popular with groups, leagues and corporate events.
Pricing is per bay, not per player, so it works out cheaper in a group. Online rates range from AUD 40 an hour for one player to AUD 85 for four to six players, with up to six people per bay, and one player usually takes 45 to 55 minutes for 18 holes. A PGA professional offers lessons for golfers of all levels.

Frequently asked questions
1. Which golf course in Tamworth is best for visitors?
Answer: It depends on what you want from the round. Tamworth Golf Club is central, more forgiving and easy to join through its weekly competitions. Longyard is the better choice if you want a tougher layout with water, wind and a proper practice range before you tee off.
2. How much does a round of golf cost in Tamworth?
Answer: Visitors pay roughly AUD 45 to 46 for 18 holes and AUD 27 to 34 for 9 holes at the two outdoor courses. Cart hire adds AUD 45 to 50 for 18 holes. Prices change from time to time, so confirm with the pro shop before you play.
3. Is there a driving range in Tamworth?
Answer: Yes. Longyard Golf has the city’s only driving range, with undercover bays for cold or rainy days. If you want to practise with ball-flight data, Gimmie Golf’s simulators are another option.
4. Do golf courses in Tamworth have their own Local Rules?
Answer: Yes, and some are specific to the area. At Longyard, for example, relief may be taken from holes made by kangaroos in bunkers, the tunnel between the 3rd and 4th holes is treated as an immovable obstruction, and the windmill between the 9th and 10th gives no free relief. Reading the Local Rules before your round helps you avoid penalties.
Whether you prefer a historic, central layout or a Greg Norman design with water on the closing holes, the golf courses in Tamworth offer good value for a round in regional NSW. Check the green fees and Local Rules before you go, book a tee time through the pro shop, and keep Gimmie Golf in mind for rainy days or evening practice.
