1. Cairns Golf Club<\/h2>\n

Cairns Golf Club<\/strong> is the main 18-hole course on the southern side of the city, a few minutes from the CBD in Woree. The club’s history goes back to 1924, and the course sits next to the Chinaman Creek wetlands. It plays to a par of 72 and measures just over 6,100 metres from the back tees. The club also hosts the annual Cairns Open.<\/p>\n

Golfers who have played here describe well-kept fairways and smooth, true greens. One visitor walked all 18 holes in light rain and still enjoyed the round, noting that the par 3s are tough and the par 5s are long enough to need a plan. The same feedback warns that some holes can end up underwater after very heavy rain. On the opening hole, the two fairway bunkers on the right at around 230 to 250 metres catch many tee shots.<\/p>\n

Facilities are strong for a city club. There is a full-length floodlit driving range open to the public, a golf shop with PGA professionals, lessons, and an air-conditioned clubhouse that seats 120 people. Social bookings open eight days in advance, and a collared shirt and enclosed shoes are required.<\/p>\n

Green fees for 18 holes are $59 walking or $89 with a cart. Booking online lowers these to $54 and $79. Nine holes cost $49 walking or $64 with a cart ($39 and $54 online). Standard club hire is $40 for 18 holes.<\/p>\n
