Out of bounds boundaries
Course boundaries are defined by white-marked fence posts or white stakes.
Hole 18 / hole 1 safety out of bounds
When playing hole 18, a ball stopping on the fairway-height-or-lower playing area of hole 1 is out of bounds for safety.
Penalty areas and hole 18 drop zone
Unmarked ditches are red penalty areas; the red penalty area along the right of hole 17 is infinite. On hole 18, a marked drop zone is an additional relief option under Rule 17.
Flowering orchids are no-play zones
The area within one club-length of flowering orchids anywhere on the course is a no-play zone; relief is required under Rule 16.1f when the ball, stance or swing is affected.
Ground under repair and abnormal conditions
Blue stakes, white lines or other course markings identify ground under repair. Blue stakes with green tops identify no-play zones. Washed-out bunker areas with deep channels, exposed stones or drainage pipes are also abnormal ground conditions.
Stone walls and fauna piles are integral objects
Stone walls and remnants crossing holes 13, 14, 15 and 17, plus log piles and larger brush piles used as fauna deposits, are integral objects. Free relief is not available and they must not be moved.
Motorised transport restriction in competitions
During a competition round, players and caddies may not use motorised transport unless approved or permitted by the committee, with stated exceptions for stroke-and-distance situations and authorised players.
Suspension and resumption signals
A long signal indicates suspension for a dangerous situation; three repeated signals indicate other suspensions; two repeated signals indicate resumption. Practice areas close during a dangerous-situation suspension.
