Local Rules
Aeration Holes
Free relief is available under Rule 16.1b in the general area and Rule 16.1d on the putting green when the ball lies in or touches an aeration hole; stance or line-only interference does not qualify.
Out of Bounds
A ball is out of bounds beyond any fence or white post defining the course boundary; the clubhouse, terrace, car park, short game area and practice putting green are also out of bounds.
All Roads and Paths
All roads and paths on the course, including those not artificially surfaced, are immovable obstructions from which free relief is allowed under Rule 16.1.
Penalty for Breach
The penalty for breach is loss of hole in match play and the general penalty of two strokes in stroke play.
Fixed Sprinkler Heads
Relief under Rule 16.1b is available when an immovable sprinkler head is on the line of play, within two club-lengths of the putting green and within two club-lengths of the ball; no relief for a clearly unreasonable line.
No Play Zones: Young Trees and GUR
Staked or bound young trees and areas marked by a sign or line as ground under repair are no play zones; mandatory free relief applies under Rule 16.1f.
Winter Rules: Yellow Tees and Preferred Lies
When winter rules are in play, men’s general play must be from the yellow tees. On fairway-height-or-less ground in the general area, the ball may be placed within six inches, not nearer the hole and in the general area; the penalty for playing from a wrong place is the general penalty.

Small greens Approaches need a precise landing target and enough margin for the day’s lie. Sloping fairways Uneven lies can change strike and rollout; plan for the stance as well as the pin. Subtle borrows Read the green’s movement carefully and avoid assuming every putt is straight. Protected recovery areas A missed green can leave a difficult angle, so favour the side with the simplest next shot.
Blue Tee Strategy
Choose tee clubs that leave a balanced lie and a clear approach angle. Aim for the larger safe section of each small green rather than chasing every flag. Read slopes and borrows before selecting both approach club and putting line. Prioritise precision from the blue tees
