Out of bounds
Defines course boundaries, clubhouse areas, practice areas, trenches and marked lines that are out of bounds.
Embedded balls and drainage slits
Embedded balls in close-mown areas and specified drainage slits qualify for relief under the abnormal ground conditions rule.
Water hazards
Yellow stakes or lines identify ordinary water hazards; red stakes or lines identify lateral water hazards.
Ground under repair
White paint marks GUR; blue stakes/marked areas and protected copses are no-play zones requiring mandatory relief.
Protection of young trees
Young trees identified by stakes, guards or wire mesh require free relief when interfering with stance or swing.
Stones in bunkers
Stones in bunkers are movable obstructions and relief is available under Rule 24-1.
Fixed sprinkler heads
Fixed sprinkler heads are immovable obstructions; the specimen local rule applies.
Bridges
Stone, fixed and portable wooden bridges are integral parts of the course; play the ball as it lies or use unplayable-ball relief.
Internal paths
All internal paths are immovable obstructions with mandatory nearest-point relief without penalty.
Tractor marks
A ball in a tractor mark may receive free relief under the abnormal ground conditions rule.
