Artificial-surface paths
Sand areas and paths with artificial surfaces are treated as obstructions under the stated scorecard rules.
Shelters on the course
Shelters located within the course are treated as immovable obstructions where the scorecard says relief applies.
Out of bounds
Out of bounds is marked by white stakes.
Agricultural areas
Agriculturally used areas must not be entered.
Flower beds
Planted rose or flower beds are ground under repair; relief must be taken under Rule 16.
Penalty areas
Penalty areas are marked by yellow or red stakes.
Penalty for breach
Breach penalty is loss of hole in match play and two penalty strokes in stroke play.
Bunker stones
Stones in bunkers are movable obstructions under Rule 12.2a.
Additional local rules
Local amendments may apply; players must also check the special local-rules notice board.
Ground under repair
Ground under repair is marked by blue stakes or white lines and relief applies under Rule 16.
Supported or protected trees
Trees with support stakes, tree grids, tree grates or marked tree surrounds require relief as specified by the local rules.
