Out of bounds
Out of bounds is defined by stakes, metal or wooden fences, walls and/or white lines. Hole-specific boundaries apply on holes 5, 8, 13, 14, 16, 17 and 18; when boundary objects coincide, the one closest to the course prevails.
No-play zones holes 12, 16 and 17
The croquet fields on holes 12, 16 and 17 are no-play zones marked by blue stakes and/or lines. The player must take relief under Rule 16.1f.
Drop zones holes 11 and 15
On holes 11 and 15, when a ball lies within one club-length of the boundary wall behind the green and the player declares it unplayable, the player may use the designated drop zone to the right of the green with one penalty stroke.
Abnormal conditions and integral objects
Ground under repair includes areas marked by blue stakes and/or white or blue lines, deep horse or machinery tracks, and sanded areas on holes 10–18 when they interfere with the lie or swing. Wooden crossbars, artificial retaining walls forming penalty areas and rubber tubes near boundary walls/fences are integral objects.
Preferred lies Model Local Rule E-3
When the ball lies in a closely mown area of the general area, the player may lift and place the original or another ball once within a card-length relief area in the general area, not nearer the hole, under Model Local Rule E-3.
