Course markings
White-top stakes mark out of bounds; yellow and red mark penalty areas; blue marks ground under repair; blue-green marks a no-play zone.
Internal out of bounds holes 8/9
Black-and-white stakes between holes 8 and 9 are internal out of bounds only when playing hole 8; on hole 9 they are immovable obstructions.
Penalty areas
Unmarked ditches and ponds are red penalty areas, with the boundary where the ground breaks into the hazard.
Abnormal conditions
Gravel-filled drainage lines, exposed rocks on closely mown areas, rain or irrigation damage in bunkers and paved crossings on holes 1, 8 and 9 are abnormal conditions.
Animals near ball
An animal not defined as a loose impediment may be moved; if the ball moves there is no penalty and it must be replaced.

Protected areas Biotopes and no-play zones can remove the direct line and require rule-based relief. Boundary holes Out of bounds affects holes 9, 10 and 13–18, including roads and paths on 17 and 18.
