2x2 rule
The 2x2 rule (Model Local Rule F-5.2) gives free relief from an immovable obstruction when the ball is within two club-lengths of it, the obstruction is within two club-lengths of the green, and both are in the fairway-height general area.
Disputes and breach penalty
Rules disputes must be reported to the Committee before the scorecard is signed and submitted. Breach penalty is loss of hole in Match Play and two strokes in Stroke Play; no additional Local Rule penalty applies where the general penalty has already been incurred.
Robotic mowers
If a robotic mower moves a ball out of place, replace the ball on its original estimated spot under Rule 9.6. If a ball in motion accidentally hits a robot, play the ball as it lies under Rule 11.1.
Out of bounds
Out of bounds is over boundary walls, hedges and fences; white posts may identify but do not necessarily define the line. Specific OOB applies left of hole 1, right of 4, right/rear of 6, right of 10 in the ditch or beyond, right of 11, and internally when playing hole 12 with hole 11 marked OOB.
Immovable obstructions
Directional signage, roping and supports, water-control covers, half-way hut and garden behind it, seats, shelters, bridges, sprinklers, notice boards and drainage works are immovable obstructions; compulsory lift and drop one club-length, no nearer the hole.
Turf seams
A ball in or touching a seam of cut turf, or where the seam interferes with the intended swing, receives relief under Rule 16.1b in the general area or Rule 16.1d on the putting green; stance-only interference does not qualify.
Telegraph pole and wires
The telegraph pole, support wires and overhead wires on the 3rd hole are integral parts of the course; no free relief is available for interference or a ball striking the wires. Play as it lies or take unplayable-ball relief with one penalty stroke.
