Out of bounds and essential structures
Out of bounds is marked by white posts, with the boundary defined by the straight line at ground level between the course-side edges of the posts. Certain posts beside holes 11 and 5 do not define out of bounds when playing holes 8 and 6, and posts beside hole 6 do not define out of bounds when playing hole 7. Flower and shrub plantings in the rough between holes are essential structures.
Fixed obstructions and abnormal conditions
Tapiola treats non-played-hole out posts, paved roads, fixed course structures, benches, signs, irrigation covers and distance markers as fixed obstructions. Gravel around trees and stumps, embedded stones at fairway height or shorter-cut areas, and deep drainage ruts or machinery tracks are abnormal ground conditions; relief is without penalty under Rule 16.1 where applicable.
Preferred lies and cleaning rule
When the applicable temporary rule is in force and the ball lies in a fairway-height-or-shorter part of the general area, a player may lift and place it once without penalty within 30 cm of its original spot, not nearer the hole. Under the cleaning rule, the ball may be lifted, cleaned and replaced on its original spot after marking it. Check the live course information or caddiemaster for whether these rules are active.
