No-play zones – blue stakes with green tops
Areas marked with blue stakes with green tops are no-play zones treated as ground under repair; free relief is mandatory under Rule 16.1f.
Bunker washouts
Bunker areas where sand has been removed by running water and deep furrows have formed are ground under repair.
Ant hills and vole mounds
Large or hard ant hills and vole mounds may be treated either as loose impediments or ground under repair, at the player’s choice.
Exposed stones in closely mown area
A ball resting on an exposed stone in the closely mown area may receive a free drop within the relief area.
150-metre markers
Yellow/black 150-metre markers are movable obstructions and may also be lifted when they interfere with the player or line of sight.
Out of bounds markers
Out of bounds is marked with white stakes.
Red penalty area markers
Penalty areas are marked with red stakes.
Ground under repair and immovable obstructions
The official rules cover blue-staked or otherwise identified ground under repair, blue stakes with green tops as no-play zones, exposed stones and rock on closely mown areas, and relief from paved paths or other immovable obstructions where applicable.
