Sand waste areas
Sand waste areas identified by the local rules are in the general area and are not bunkers; blue stakes identify them. Nicklaus: hole 8 right of fairway and hole 16 left of fairway. Fazio: hole 16 left of fairway/green and sand areas in front of hole 18 tee.
Out of bounds
The inside edge of 2-inch square white stakes at ground level defines boundaries. Nicklaus exceptions: inside edge of road or curb on holes 4, 6, 10 and 14. Fazio exceptions: all property-line fencing and the inside edge of the road on holes 8 and 9.
Penalty areas and drop zones
Yellow penalty areas are defined by yellow lines and stakes; red penalty areas by red lines and stakes. Nicklaus drop zones are provided on holes 3, 12, 15 and 17 for balls last crossing yellow penalty areas. Fazio drop zones are provided on holes 6 and 13, plus a front-tee option on hole 10 for the specified red penalty area.
Abnormal course conditions
Ground under repair includes white-lined areas, raised tree wells with a white line, all tree stumps, tree or stump removal sites, fire-ant beds or mounds, and deep furrows in sand caused by moving water. Certain animal damage and turf seams allow relief for lie or intended swing only, not stance.
Cleaning ball and preferred lies
Only when the Committee activates the condition may a ball in fairway-height-or-less general area be lifted, cleaned and replaced. When preferred lies are activated, a ball in the general area cut to rough height or less may be placed once within one club-length, no nearer the hole and in the general area.
