Out of bounds boundary
Out of bounds is defined by the line between the course-side edges of white stakes or posts at ground level.
Ground under repair and no-play zones
Blue stakes or other markings identify GUR; blue stakes with green tops and a white ring identify a no-play zone requiring free relief under Rule 16.1f.
Washed-out bunker areas
Bunker areas where running water has removed sand and created deep channels are abnormal ground conditions.
Extra relief for obstructions near the green
Extra relief applies when an immovable obstruction is on the line of play, within two club-lengths of the green and within two club-lengths of the ball, subject to the stated limitation.
Hedgerows are integral parts
Hedgerows are integral parts of the course, so free relief is not available from them.
Motorised transport restriction
During a competition round, players and caddies may not use motorised transport unless approved or permitted by the committee, with stated exceptions.
